The Edison Room
Escape Room Rating: 97%
"Telegraph from Thomas Edison: 'I request the pleasure of your company to discuss matters of great importance. Meet at my study located in the Palace of Fine Arts. Waste No Time.' Since the discovery of Edison’s telegram, the Palace Games team has located his study at the Palace of Fine Arts. It is now open to the public. Come play to learn the secret reason Edison built and maintained this special place at the Palace of Fine Arts! "
Widely known as a master class of escape room production and creation, The Edison Room is the latest of the Palace Games offerings. A continuation of their inventor-style theming, this room is packed with enough lights and technology to make Thomas Edison proud. In the highest tier of the best escape experiences in the US, Edison checks all the boxes. Set design is well crafted (with a legitimate phonograph in the first room!) and taken to the next level later in the game.
Palace always designs with the idea of participants truly controlling their experience in a physical way, and discovering the ways they do this is an awesome "aha!" moment. At the forefront of the industry, the Edison room is built to adapt for the number of your team (I'd relate it to how board games or video games modify slightly to the number of players). The direction and design fully achieve the feeling of being the star in a movie or video game.
A quick note; the price point is super premium at $400 (although really if you measure by dollars per minute compared it to a 60min room it isn't too much more, since Edison is 100 thrilling minutes!). For escape room enthusiasts, this is a must-play room, and the experience is well worth it. Ask if you can peek into one of their control rooms after the game to marvel at all the wiring and circuitry it takes to engineer the experience you just played.
Palace Games has clearly aimed to grab the bar and raise it higher—the final act of the Edison room is completely atypical and truly a one of a kind experience. The only thing left to do is eagerly wait to see what they're dreaming up next.
