Chapter One: Occam's Apartment
Escape Room Rating: 90%
"Bill Occam was dead. They said it was open-shut: textbook suicide. While you didn’t agree, you just wanted to put this nasty chapter behind you. Just clean out his apartment and move on with your life. The hallway seemed never-ending. To most people, it was just another hallway leading to another rundown apartment. To you, well, you might as well be falling down the rabbit hole. You stand frozen outside of his door as a feeling of dread washes over you. “What is wrong with me? there is nothing to be afraid of,” you think. You steel yourself and open the door…"
Evil Genius Escape Rooms has a great and spacious location in LA with a unique layout. They're one of the foremost rooms in terms of offering truly immersive story-driven gameplay. Their two rooms (with a third coming soon) are offered separately or able to be booked back-to-back as a 2 hour blockbuster experience. If you can swing it, this is the ideal way to play their games—where the story genuinely plays out like your team is the star in a movie.
Chapter One is a seemingly modest apartment set with a great beginning and end. Production is top-notch for this room, and pacing is played out perfectly as you near the end of the puzzles. Two tell-tale signs that Evil Genius cares about the player experience, the true small maximum player size of these rooms (6) and the private booking style, both of which we love.
Both of these Evil Genius Rooms have an awesome chronological storyline—we definitely recommend their two hour experience, or either as a standalone escape room.
